Hi,
Most nets on the HF bands do not cause problems to non-net hams
such as I am.
A recent UNPLEASANT experience I had on the 20 meter SSB band
involved a net that was going to start soon on a frequency I had asked
two times if the frequency was in use about 5 minutes before the net
was to start. Note: I had NO CLUE a net was going to start on that frequency.
WHAT REALLY TICKED ME OFF:
After I asked twice if the frequency was in use (no response), I began calling "CQ, CQ..". A ham responded to my CQ call, but before I could
hear his call sign, another ham, part of the net, started talking right on
top of the fellow I am trying to hear, and told me a net is starting up in
a couple minutes. I tried to tell the fellow who answered my CQ call to
QSY to another frequency, but the "net guy" kept talking. I couldn't
get his call sign (ham who answered my CQ).
SUGGESTION:
I recommend to all hams who are part of a net(s) to monitor the frequency you use for the net, about 5 to 10 minutes before the net time starts.
If someone asks if the frequency is in use, tell him/her that a net is going to start on this frequency at <time>.
