Chris, without power the only way that I understand
that you could communicate is by foot, horse,
bicycle, runner other than that you could shout,
maybe you can give me other Idea's.

Must be a very low participation list. I'd
have expected at least a couple readers to
sing the praises of amateur radio.

Amateur Radio powered by generator and solar power. I have
HF/VHF/UHF. We also have multiple solar powered VHF repeaters here.

Digital modes, separate receiver would always be low power.
Newer energy-efficient mips/watt CPUs. Better Z80 (or emu) during the transition?
Separate receive antenna / band diversity.

Solar: super capacitor for transmit spikes, minimum xmit power. FEC, S/N (bit error)
feedback from peer, don't just ACK send data on ACK packet, multi/broad cast. --- Synchronet 3.21b-Linux NewsLink 1.2

You know, amateur radio sure makes a lot of
sense when the power grid is down.

Last Saturday I was able to talk through a repeater
pretty much all day on my Baofeng. Ended the day
with three of three power bars showing.
