Arrived at the bridge on time, allowed some
extra time to get there. Distance was much
farther than I remembered.
With the change off Daylight Saving Time, I
stopped by the church and changed about 25
clocks and put in 25 batteries.
Listening to the radio net helped keep me awake.
Also made a couple calls on my cell phone. Nice
to have cell service, out in cow country. Verizon.
A couple of the other bridges reported visits
from State Police, to chat and say thank you.
One vehicle needed a jump start. Last night one
also needed a jump. I didn't write down which
bridge last night, but think it was different one.
Must be dead batteries are an issue with amateur
radio operators. The operator with the dead battery
was five minutes from home. The roving goody patrol
driver jump started his vehicle. Then he went home
to get other vehicle, and a handi talkie.
Goody patrol stopped by about 11:00. We were busy
chatting at the top of the hour, and I turned down
my volume. Missed my check in. He left, and I turned
up the radio in time to catch Net Control wondering
where was I. Oops. Well, that's the second night that
I missed a check in, some how.
Near the end of the evening, the repeater got a lot of
noise in with the radio traffic. They considered change
to a different repeater, but figured with an hour left
of patrol, not to bother. I had the other repeater in
my HT, and monitored.
On my 1998 Blazer, if I push the parking brake and start
the engine, the exterior lights stay off. Release the
parking brake, and all the lights come on. Nice to have
some heat, and night vision at the same time.
It did not get cold enough for me to use my Hot Hands,
from the sporting goods store. Though I ought have
sacrificed one for testing.
