The only walkie talkie I've seen, was a Lafayette,
which was designed and fit a HB-525. This 23 channel
AM mobile existed in the early 1980s. The boy next
door bought one. He found that carbon zinc C cells
did not transmit, but the more expensive alkalines
would. I traded the walkie talkie from him, and still
have it.
I'm not a tester of different models. Two my Handi
Talkie are GE brand, 40 channel and AM only. Seems
to work OK.
Plenty of old equipment on Ebay. For many years
I wanted a 40 ch handi talkie, and finally got
one cheaply. Not used it since then.
