• Amateur radios at the hamfest

I did volunteer at a hamfest, yesterday. We used
simplex, about 445 mHz. Got to use my Baofeng.

The guy who was running the show had a Kenwood,
which had totally wonderful transmit audio. Really
boomed through my speakers. Time to save my money
and try to get enough to buy a Kenwood.

Those handi talkies saved a LOT of running about,
checking on various people. And the golf carts
were wonderful for taking people here and there,
and keeping everyone supplied with cold water
    bottles.

After the event, I wrote a list of things I learned.
Will publish the list here, if requested.

I know Bob Heil is always saying the microphones included with a radio
are crap but I get the same reports of "Great audio" with my Kenwood.
Using the standard hand Mic... not so good with a Heil PR series (Though
I did not equalize for the mic, I run FLAT equalization on transmit).

Sometimes, I think they do in fact make a decent attempt to match it all
up.. Audio (receive) on my Baofeng.. Sucks in my personal opinion.

Oh, on transmit audio.... Audio input to the microphone makes a
difference too.. I know folks who if you had a "Broadcast quality" set
up woudl be hard to understand..... (One took over as the head of the
division I worked for just AFTER (Thank heavens) I retired).--

Where abouts do you get a Baofeng? (I'm in the US) preferably not
    online..?

We lost ours some time ago. was looking for realistic replacement...

Unfortunately, the person who wrote the original message about a Baofeng
etc. is no longer with us. Sadly, he passed away in July of this year.

There are a couple of prior messages in this group about that ("Death in Group" and "Death of a group member") dated 8/8/2016.
