Just got an email. We're doing sign ups for this Haloween, watching NYS Thruway bridges. Last year, I did sign up, and I was watching the bridge
both nights. Got to use my Baofeng, a couple times. Check in wiht net
control. Sat for about 4 hours, two nights. Total of eight hours. During
that time there were zero trouble reports, any of the 16 bridges. As the
new guy, I had the one bridge that opened up, which was about 25 miles
from my home. Spending Oct 30 and 31 away from home, I got no chance to
hand out candy or stuff to the treaters.
So, they want me to sign up again. Bucket of gasoline. Sit in the truck
with silence and boredom. Can't read (destroy my night vision). Last
year, no AM / FM radio in the truck. Got cold in there, with no heat.
So, to sign up again? Bit of a decision. Invest time and money, sit in darkness and boredom to catch zero goblins. Hmm.
