Gate dipper.

Recently I aquired a gate dipper unfinished project, it was *very* cheap on the understanding that I'd probably have to strip it out and start over.
My main interest is lower frequencies extending down to about 300kHz - I'm looking for advice on what type of oscillator is best for that.
Most of the plug in coils with the greatest number of windings are single - untapped, which restricts the oscillator type a bit.
For the LF work I'm interesting I was thinking of the oscillator that looks like a long tailed pair - but can't remember its name to search on google.
Thanks for any help.
