    From Allan Higdon@allanh@vivaldi.net to alt.comp.freeware on Sun Dec 28 08:49:59 2025
    From Newsgroup: alt.comp.freeware

    This has been my File Manager for years.

    "FreeCommander XE is a powerful, dual-pane file manager with hundreds of features including folder size calculation, folder comparison/synchronization, file/duplicate search, filtering, MD5 calc / verfiy, folder compare, sync and a customizable interface. Includes a file viewer to view files in hex, binary, text or image format; an archive handling ability for standard compressed formats including ZIP (read, write), CAB (read, write) and RAR (read); built-in copy/move/delete handlers; and much more. Additional features are available via plugins.

    A 64-bit version is available for donors, while a PortableApps version is also available from the author's website."

    Mine too, but is it still free? After installing/upgrading I got a
    message; you can see it in Help > About

    <quote>

    FreeCommander 32-bit is free for personal use and evaluation purposes. Evaluation is limited to 30 days.

    </quote>

    I can't remember seeing this message before.

    License agreement states:

    <quote>

    2. License Models
    2.1. 32-bit Version (Free Version)
    • For private users
    Private individuals may download, install, and use the 32-bit version of
    the Program free of charge and without time limitation.
    Distribution of the installation file is permitted, provided it remains unchanged and is accompanied by these license terms.
    • For commercial users
    Commercial users may use the 32-bit version for testing purposes for a
    period of 30 days. After the test period expires, commercial use is
    permitted only with a valid license for the 64-bit version.

    </quote>

    Was I just tagged as 'commercial user' ?

    I didn't realize that you had already seen the license information.
    The 32-bit version is still free for personal use.

    It's just that I can't remember the warning popping up when upgrading.
    Then again, I think it has been a while since the public version got an
    update.

    There is discussion about the evaluation alert at https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14173

    According to Marek, it should only appear once.
    It appears every time you start the program if you are working in a larger business network.

    Tnx!

    I searched through the forum, but didn't find this. I'm not seeing the
    message anymore, so I should be good.
