    Hello,
I'm righthanded and I'm starting to learn to send with a Iambic keyer.

In an italian forum I've read that is better to learn to send with the
left hand in order to have the right hand free for writing.

    Is this a good advice?

    Thanks for a response..

Probably not a bad skill to have. But an arguably better one is being able
    to head copy.

Having no CW experince I'm non able to understand if manipulating with
left hand is a real andavantage. Most hams as you says that is
necessary to copy by head and only to write down things as callsign
etc.. So ones can use the right hand to manipulate and write.

Why would you need to write something down if you are sending?

Definitely so. Spares you putting away the pen when sending,
and grabbing it again when you want to write down something you
received. Remember to swap levers so the 'dits' stay where your
    thumb is.

    Ciao Paolo,

I guess I'm fortunate... I learned to send Morse using a straight key w/ my left hand, and after I mastered that, a keyer/bug w/ my right hand. I write left-handed, so when I send w/ a keyer, I can log w/ my left. However,
about the only time this has been of significant value, is when I'm
    operating in a CW contest.
That said, I recommend using the method that produces the best Morse and is easiest or "natural-feeling" to you.

Interesting! I can only use my LH when operating a straight key but find my RH is best when using horizontal paddles. Isnt the brain an interesting
    thing!

I am LH for writing so I am like Bryan.
I can operate the key with the RH and write with the LH, I find this very useful as I have got into the habit of writing down the call before entering it into the log. In my case thats the way my brain operates, not sure that
you can train yourself to do it if it doesnt come naturally.
