• APRS setup question

I have just started getting into APRS and I am starting to realize how information is really spread out across the internet. So I thought I
would just come to this group to see if what I want to do is possible.

I would like to use my IC-2200H mobile with APRS at a low cost.
I was wondering if it's possible to have an inexpensive GPS like the
Garmin GPS18 connected to my laptop, and use a software TNC (AGWPE?) to
    connect to the radio.

I want to be able to send out my coordinates, but also to receive
coordinates and display them on the laptop.

Would that be possible? And if not exactly like that, what would be the
most inexpensive way to do it?

    73,

    mj

Yes that is possible.. use a sound card interface to attache the radio to
the computer, feed the GPS data in a serial port (only problem i see is needing more than one serial port, one for keying the radio one for the GPS input data). run AGWPE with WinAPRS. Setup WinAPRS to work with AGWPE and enable GPS input. You can now setup timed beacon rates within APRS. Make
sure to set you audio levels for RX and TX. You can now receive and transmit APRS data.

    Excellent information thanks!

I will probably use a USB GPS with a serial port emulator, that should eliminate the available ports problem. I will have to see what I can do
with the PTT issue though, probably another port emulator for the
    rigblaster.
