Hey folks,
This will be crossposted on alt.ham-radio.packet, but I have a few
curiousities about packet radio, and the alt-net in general. We talk
about it all the time, at least on MRC, about our enjoyment of using
the older protocols to obtain information and communicate... Gopher,
finger, bbs's, etc.
Lately, I've been enjoying the discovery of finger services offering
data like current weather forecasts, news feeds, etc. Has anyone
attempted such a thing over packet radio?
I'm sure gopher holes have popped in and out of existenceover the
years, but how about today? And if so, how do you find these sources?
Is there a search engine you can query over packet radio? Or is all the information obtained via word-of-mouth?
I have an interest in getting my ham radio license, and budgeting for
the hardware to practice it. I'd also like to employ packet radio.
What say you?
Daniel
