South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC

EI2WRC is thrilled to announce that the SWL for 2024 for their annual
"Sponsor A SWL" initiative is 16-year-old, Nikita Zdunek EI2069. The
initiative, which was set up in 2023, involves the club reaching out to
a selected SWL from the southeast region each year who has shown
serious interest in completing the online HAREC course and getting his
or her licence. As part of the venture, the club will give free
membership to the EI2WRC club for one year. The club will also pay for
the person's membership of the IRTS to complete the online HAREC course
with the NSWLC and also pay for the HAREC course guide. In addition,
the club will pay the exam fee for the chosen SWL to sit their exam.

EI2WRC club members will also act as mentors and will be always
available to provide assistance to the SWL while doing the HAREC course
if he or she is having issues or difficulties with any aspect of the
course. Everyone in EI2WRC wishes Nikita the very best of luck as he
sets out on the road to getting his licence and EI callsign.

The June meeting of the EI2WRC group will take place on Monday, June
24th at 8 p.m. sharp at the South East Technological University,
Netlabs Research and Innovation Building, SETU West Campus,
Carriganore, Waterford. Eircode X91 WR86. Please note new location.
Anyone that has an interest in amateur radio or communications in

    welcome to attend.

The 51st AGM of North Dublin Radio Club

The 51st Annual General Meeting of the North Dublin Radio Club, EI0NDR,
was held on Saturday the 8th of June in the Artane Beaumont Family
Recreation Centre. It was well attended, and a lively discussion took
place on the future of the blub, including participation in the
upcoming International Lighthouse Weekend event and the Dublin Maker.
Deceased members were remembered with a minute's silence. Following the
Chairman's, Secretary's, and Treasurer's reports, the new committee was
elected. They are as follows: Chairman Brian EI8LC, Secretary Howard
EI9LC, Treasurer Tony EI6K, Station Manager Chris EI5HHB, Project
Manager Tony EI5EM, PRO and IRTS Club Representative Garret EI7KX.

The Willie Barron, EI6BUB Memorial Trophy was awarded to Mick EI6IKB
for service to the club, especially in organising the International
Lighthouse Weekend over the last two years. Willie Barron was a former
chairman of the club and served as president of the IRTS. The trophy,
in his honour, was designed and presented to the club by Ray, EI7AHB,
sadly also a silent key. Unfortunately, Mick couldn't attend the
meeting to receive his well-merited award. The club is in a healthy
financial state and recently purchased an IC7300 transceiver, which was
on display at the meeting. When the meeting concluded, members posed
for photographs for the archives. The club is looking forward to a
    great year ahead.

    Collective Communication Update

Collective Communication report that following their highly successful
portable satellite weekend at Kilmurrin Cove, Waterford last weekend,
the club will be teaming up with the Copper Coast scout group for JOTA
later this year. According to the club, they now have a proven ability
to operate through the only operational amateur geostationary
satellite, Es'hail QO-100. They now intend to utilize the ability to
enable the scouts to make contact with other scout groups under
qualified supervision via this very reliable communication satellite
with predictable propagation ability, no QSB, or QRN and good signal to
noise ratio. They cite a further benefit is that they won't have to
concern themselves with the possibilities of contest operators causing
QRM to their signals over the JOTA weekend.

Collective Communication ask that if you have the equipment to make
contacts through the QO-100 satellite and intend to team up with a
scout group for JOTA, please get in touch with their club secretary
    John 086 870 9265 to arrange a possible scout-to-scout sked during the
    JOTA weekend.

May Edition of the IARU Region 1 Monitoring System Newsletter

The May edition of the IARU Region 1 Monitoring System newsletter has
been published. In this most recent newsletter, they report that many
intruder and inferring transmissions on the HF amateur radio bands have
continued despite the significant solar disruption during this time
period. Strange and unusual transmissions have been observed. On the
20-meter amateur radio band, the transmission of several types of
wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (or OFDM) typically
used for digital communication were noted. These were supposedly of
Russian origin according to the report. You can read more about the
observed signals and watch short video examples of them yourself by
downloading the newsletter from the monitoring system page at
    www.iaru-r1.org
