    News from the IRTS

    HF newsreaders are required to join our current panel of newsreaders
    for the weekly Sunday morning 40m and 80m IRTS news bulletins. There is
    very little involved in reading a bulletin and no experience is
    necessary. If any licensed IRTS member living in EI feels like that
    they would be interested in becoming part of the IRTS newsreaders panel
    or if you require more information, please get in touch with the IRTS
    News Coordinator Seany EI2HZB by phone on 083 4713001 or via email to

    A news bulletin on the 4-meter band is being provided by the Patriot
    Radio Communications Club EI7PRC based in Watergrasshill in Cork. This
    bulletin is transmitted at 8 p.m. local time on Sunday evenings on
    70.350 MHz FM simplex. It is on a trial basis so if you can receive it,
    please call in and support it.

    "IRTS Hamfest 2025" will take place over the weekend of September 6th
    and 7th in conjunction with the IRTS SSB Field Day weekend. It will
    take place on the spacious grounds of the Mullingar Showgrounds,
    Culleen, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

    The aim to bring novice and experienced people together in one place
    along with a very wide array of amateur radio equipment, technologies,
    and experience. From solo operators to clubs, we would like to extend a
    welcome to all. You are invited to come along and learn via hands-on
    practical tutorials that you can take part in or bring your
    radio-related gear to show others how to set it up correctly. Camping
    and campervan parking is available and encouraged.

    We are encouraging involvement from as many clubs and operators as
    possible. Please contact the team as soon as possible via email to
    hamfest /at/ irts.ie with proposals for demonstrations and practical
    tutorials that you or your club would like to provide.

    The next IRTS committee meeting will take place on Thursday, June 5th
    at 8 p.m. on the Zoom platform. All IRTS affiliated clubs are reminded
    that under Rule 16.1, the members in each affiliated club, society, or
    other body may elect a representative and an alternate annually to
    attend IRTS committee meetings. Clubs wishing to send a representative
    should notify the IRTS Secretary, Andy EI7IOB at irts_secretary /at/
    irts.ie in advance to ensure notification and links are provided.

    South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC

    The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will be QRV as EI2WRC/P from the
    Old Copper Mine, Tankardstown, Bunmahon, Co. Waterford next Sunday,
    June 8th, 2025. The club is pleased to announce that the location can
    be activated in the following categories: Echo India Flora and Fauna as
    EIFF-0263 Mid Waterford Coast Special Protection Area (SPA).

    It also it has a 2 for 1 on Parks on the Air which are EI-0162 Mid
    Waterford Coast SPA and EI-0163 Tankardstown Copper Mine. The old
    copper mine building comes in as part of the Castles on the Air
    programme and has been assigned the COTA-EI designator EI-01566. EI2WRC
    look forward to hearing you all on HF and the Southern Ireland Repeater
    Network on the day or you are passing by drop in and say hello!

    Summits on the Air Information Sessions

    Two Summit on the Air or SOTA information sessions are coming up next
    Saturday. The Mid-Ulster Amateur Radio Club is hosting a Summits on the
    Air information session next Saturday, June 7th. They invite all club
    members and visiting ham radio enthusiasts to join the fun and bring
    your handheld radio gear. The venue is Carricktuke GI-CA 003 and this
    activation coincides with the GI/EI SOTA weekend. For further

    West Tyrone Amateur Radio Club GN4OMA is also hosting an information
    session and SOTA activation on the same day, Saturday 7th June, to
    coincide with the GI/EI SOTA weekend. The activation will take place
    from Pollanlaght GI-SW-008 Pigeon Top. They aim to be operational from

    International Space Station Schools Contact on Wednesday

    On Wednesday June the 4th, twelve pupils representing nine Dublin-based
    DEIS primary schools will speak live with astronaut Takuya Onishi
    KF5LKS, currently serving aboard Crew 10 on the ISS. TU Dublin Access
    and Outreach together with the Irish Radio Transmitters Society's youth
    coordinator Ana Caņizares and TU Dublin staff were given a chance to
    participate in this competitive programme for a second time. This
    follows a very successful first contact that took place during Space
    Week in October 2023.

    The event will be live streamed globally via the ARISS YouTube channel.
    Tune in on June 4th at 1.10 p.m. Irish time to witness this incredible
    exchange. The ISS callsign is presently scheduled to be OR4ISS. The
    scheduled downlink frequency is 145.800 MHz. You should be be able to
    hear the live downlink side of the exchange even with just a handheld
    from most of EI.

    This eighth Irish contact also coincides with SPACEFest, a vibrant,
    free, community-focused festival celebrating the wonders of space and
    the power of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
    Designed to inspire learners of all ages, SPACEFest invites families,
    students, educators, and science enthusiasts to take part in hands-on
    workshops, exciting talks, and immersive space experiences. This runs
    from June 4th to the 7th and admission to all activities is free! You

    Contests and Activities

    The RSGB 80m Club Championship Data Contest takes place tomorrow
    evening, Monday June 2nd from 19:00 UTC to 20:30 UTC.

    On VHF and above, a range of contests and activities are coming up that
    are great opportunities for self-training and testing your station set
    up.

    On the 2-metre band from 18:00 UTC to 21:30 UTC on Tuesday, the RSGB
    144MHz FM Activity and UK Activity contests will run back-to-back.

    The UK Six Metre Group is holding their annual six metre summer contest
    next weekend. It starts on Saturday 7th June at 13:00 UTC and finishes
    24 hours later on Sunday 8th June 2025.

    For those interested in amateur television or ATV, the IARU ATV Contest
    commences at 12:00 UTC next Saturday also using amateur television on
    the 70cm band and above. It ends at 18:00 UTC the next day, Sunday June
    8th.
